The settling tank of the Brzeszcze Hard Coal Mine
Salty mine waters from dewatering the nearby mine are pumped into the settling tank and from here channelled off directly into the Vistula River. Despite water salinity, invertebrates develop abundantly in the muddy bottom. They are an important food source for birds. When the water level is low, migrating birds from the bird family Charadriidae stop here and using their long beaks seek out invertebrates on the uncovered mud patches. In the period of spring and autumn bird migration we will meet here e.g. Great White Egrets, Black Storks and a few species of Ducks and Geese. The settling tank of the Brzeszcze Hard Coal Mine is an ideal place for birdwatching. You can watch birds without any hindrance from the embankment lying right by a cycle path.
