The Dwory Gravel Pit

The water bodies, which originated as a result of long-term gravel extraction, are situated right by the road with a cycle path. In these basins, in the part bordering on a rubbish dump, wooden breeding platforms float. They were placed there to enable Common Terns to nest. At the end of April and at the beginning of May, it is worth seeing the courtship flights of these birds. Every year several dozen pairs of Terns nest here. In spring and in autumn numerous Duck and Gull flocks gather in the gravel pit basins. The latter, after satisfying their hunger in the nearby rubbish dump, rest swimming in the water. Novice birdwatchers may "score" a few species of Gulls here: Larus ridibundus the Black-headed Gull, Larus canus the Common Gull, Larus cachinnans the Caspian Gull and one of the rarest Gulls - Larus fuscus the Lesser Black-backed Gull.
